They say women are peaceful by their nature; I say maybe you haven’t seen Armenian women.

Armenian society is distinguished with inveterate patriarchy. It’s simpler than you can imagine: Man is the feeding hand; Woman is the “pillar of the house”. And that’s it!

But in today’s Armenia, women have the revolutionary role. It’s unbelievable that certain circumstances have made women equally important in our society as men are.

Hey “Mother,” I’m talking about you!

Courageous, full of inexhaustible energy and life, persistent, and caring…

We can talk endlessly about the Armenian woman, yet forever isn’t enough. She is built from the fires of hardship and struggle who wraps you with her extraordinary love.

When Armenian Mother Croons Lullabies to Stolen Child, ”The Red Cross Bulletin”
Washington, D.C., August 18, 1919, Vol III,

I’m sure you heard a lot that, historically, women have always been linked to the war. However, many people hold the standpoint that “women and war” are generally incompatible. As accepted in almost all cultures, women’s primary responsibility is to take care of their homes and relatives, while men fight on the battlefield for a certain justice. War is a socially diverse phenomenon, and through years of oppression, women have always been considered the passive victims of the war.

But I’m not talking about any women, I’m only talking about the Armenian women. The ascent of radicalism, rollback of rights, and destructive policies lead our country to complete chaos. And I believe that our women are agents for peace during this difficult time. Touch her family and you’ll collide with her worst side. Nothing can break the spirit of Armenian women when it comes to their families.

Armenian women are real warriors in the rear of the war. They worked hard during the Artsakh war and donated their last penny to the revival of our homeland. Some even have gone through hell and, despite everything, stayed alive — wounded, captured, and missing relatives on the battlefield. However, these women didn’t lay their arms down so easily and took the wheel into their own hands. I know this may sound mind-blowing, but they are the ones who have crossed thousands of miles to search for their missing sons, they are the ones who manage to do these operations under the enemy’s nose by risking their own lives, and they are the ones who struggle against the system to bring back their captured relatives.

And let me tell you some more. We don’t even have a clue about those fearless women soldiers who fight on the front lines during the Armenia-Azerbaijan war. I remember that one of the local authorities promised us to mention their names, but hey there we’re still in the waiting mode.

Willy-nilly life has made our women be stronger than ever. These are not just empty lined up words. They have proved it with their decisive actions not once. The Artsakh war is a common pain for our society because human life has infinite value. Bringing back our loved ones is already impossible, even if this fact hurts us a lot. I know it’s very difficult for all of us Armenians to live and prosper now. But if we try to learn from our old mistakes, maybe we can start from a very new page.

I understand that I have no right to speak on behalf of all our immortal soldiers, and I hope that they’ll approve my courage to show readiness. Yes I’m taking all the responsibility to utter these words instead of them. I think all our heroes would have wished from the bottom of their heart to have that chance, a very last one, to whisper…

I love you “Mother”.
